Polycarbonat ist ein hochschlagzäher, transparenter Thermoplast. Es verbindet hohe Festigkeit und Temperaturbeständigkeit mit hervorragender Bruchsicherheit, ist aber empfindlich gegen Kratzer und UV-Strahlung (sofern nicht speziell stabilisiert oder beschichtet).
Technical properties
Transparent (~88–90 % Lichtdurchlässigkeit), Extrem hohe Schlagzähigkeit, auch bei niedrigen Temperaturen. Dauergebrauchstemperatur: –100 bis +115 °C. Kurzzeitige Temperaturbelastung bis ~130 °C möglich. Brennverhalten: normal entflammbar, schwer selbstlöschend (B1 nach DIN 4102 mit Additiven möglich). Geringere Kratzfestigkeit, Oberflächenbeschichtung oft notwendig. Beständig gegen Wasser, schwache Säuren, Alkohole. Empfindlich gegen organische Lösungsmittel, Basen, Kriechstrombildung möglich.
